LANDLORDS, TENANTS, AND COPING WITH COVID 19

By Jennifer L. Alexander, Esq. March 31, 2020 Posted in Landlord/Tenant Law

We hope that you, your friends, family, and loved ones are all staying safe and healthy, especially under these difficult circumstances.

As a result of the ongoing COVID‑19 pandemic, everything has begun to change. While we all hope that things will return to normal soon, no one can be certain when this crisis will end. To help cope with all this uncertainty, we at Griffin Alexander, P.C., are prepared to help our clients develop plans to work with their tenants while society adapts.

An increasing number of tenants are finding themselves without work or otherwise experiencing a loss of income. Landlords are unsure how to keep their apartments, staff, and residents safe. Many of our clients are trying to balance sympathy for their tenants’ situations with their own needs to be paid rent. We at Griffin Alexander, P.C., are ready to assist you in adjusting to this unprecedented environment.

  • We will craft hardship applications for your tenants.
  • We will draft payment plans for rent, utilities, and other charges for those tenants who are falling behind.
  • We will help you develop plans to ensure your apartments function as normally as possible, while keeping your tenants safe.
  • We will answer your legal, Coronavirus-related questions.

Feel free to contact with any help you may need. We are here for you!

Governments have responded; executive and court orders have been filed. Right now, landlord-tenant courts throughout New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, are closed, and evictions are not happening. However, we can still prepare to evict problematic tenants and send out notices. Our services have not stopped; we can still:

  • negotiate residential and commercial leases.
  • handle Federal Fair Housing Act (“FHA”) complaints;
  • advise regarding compliance with Rent Control and other statutory regulations;
  • assist when tenants breach their lease;
  • respond when tenants improperly utilize community property, sublet their apartments without authorization, or engage in prohibited and disorderly behavior;
  • and assist with any other landlord-tenant concerns you may have.

For safety reasons, we can no longer meet in person with our clients for the time being. However, in addition to being available by telephone and email, we can now meet with our clients through the web-conferencing platform Zoom.

Griffin Alexander, P.C., is strong and resilient. We are prepared for COVID-19, and we are ready to make sure our clients can adapt. As more challenges present themselves, we will develop more plans for you. Our goal is to help our clients continue operating as smoothly as possible. Now more than ever!

Stay strong, safe and healthy,

Griffin Alexander, P.C.
